Sherak

Šerák – Keprník. Below the top of Šerák, an old stone tourist hut of Jiří with a restaurant has been standing for more than a hundred years. It was built in 1888 by a German tourist association. It stands at a height of 1330 m, it burned down in 1896 and in 1926 it was extended to its present form. Today the hut has a capacity of 98 beds and 140 seats in the restaurant. There is a Mountain Service station at the chalet. The chalet can be reached not only on foot, but also by cable car from Ramzová. The chairlift starts in the village of Ramzová and leads to the top of Mount Šerák with the intermediate station Čerňava. The top of the upper station of the chairlift is about 200 m away from Jiří’s cottage.

The nature reserve Šerák – Keprník – Vozka was declared to protect the forest – mountain spruce forest in the area between Šerák and Keprník. It is the oldest reserve in Moravia. It was established in 1903 by the then owner of the estate, Prince Jan II of Liechtenstein, with an area of 172 ha. The current reserve has an area of 1174.44 ha and besides the mountain spruce forests, there are protected extensive upland areas with typical flora and a small hole with the rock formations of Vozka and Keprník, covered with unique vegetation (Alpine hawkweed, three-lobed reed, cress).

How to reach us

• from Ostružná follow the blue hiking trail past the First Republic fortifications to the Nad Dobrou vodou crossroads, from there follow the red trail to the Čerňava saddle and up the slopes of Mračná hora to the summit.
• from Ramzová, the classic ascent along the red hiking trail leads past the lower station of the cable car, the Dobrá voda well to the Nad Dobrou vodou crossroads, from there together with the route from Ostružná to the summit.
• from Ramzová along the green trail through the valley of the Vražedný brook, from where it is quite difficult to climb through the dense vegetation to the Giant Rocks, then a steep path through the forest along the blue trail to the top. The Giant Rocks can also be ascended by an easier route along the blue trail from Horní Lipová.
• from Lipová – Lázně and Jeseník gradually connect to the yellow trail, which serpentines for about 1 km overcoming an elevation of 400 m (very demanding).
• from Bělá pod Pradědem the blue trail leads through Výrovka and Šumný.
• from Branná, follow the yellow tourist trail in the direction of Banjaluka, climb up to Vozka and join the main ridge trail at the Trojmezí saddle and follow the red trail through Keprník to the summit
