PVE has two water reservoirs with a height difference of 510.7m. The upper reservoir is located at the top of the Dlouhé Stráně mountain at an altitude of 1350 m above sea level and has an operating volume of 2 580 000m3. It covers an area of 15.4 ha with a maximum depth of 48 m. The lower reservoir is located on the Divoká Desná River at an altitude of 824.7 m. It covers an area of 16,3 ha and its total volume is 3 405 000m3.
For ecological reasons (the plant site is located inside a protected landscape area), the entire plant operation is located underground. The water from the upper reservoir is piped through two 3.6 m diameter, 1.5 km long pressure feeders to two turbines, each with an output of 325 MW. These are located in an underground cavern measuring 87.5 x 25.5 x 50 m. Underground, there are also communication, process and ventilation tunnels and tunnels with a total length of 8.5 km. The underground power plant is connected to the lower reservoir by two waste tunnels with an internal diameter of 5.2 m.
